I saw the new horror film, "Heretic" on opening weekend. The preview indicated that it might be OK and it seemed like an interesting vehicle for Hugh Grant. Grant is know for his romantic comedies of the 90's & 2000's. Since the 2010's though he's stepped back from doing leading roles and seems to relish playing support or villain. Now Hugh Grant is back in his first starring role in years and he really sinks his teeth into it.
I wanted to like this film! Hugh Grant was decent enough, I like how there's practical effects. The filmmakers boasted that there was no generative AI used. The problem is, the film tries too hard to be smart and it runs 30 minutes too long! It was also too philosophical for my taste too and a few cheap jump scares that really didn't add anything to the film. There are worse ways to kill a couple of hours I suppose, but the film just didn't do it for me in the end.
I discussed this film in great detail. Listen to our SPOILER filled review by clicking here!
