Glens Falls, Stillwater boys punch tickets to Regional Finals

CLIFTON PARK - A dominant performance by two local Section 2 teams on Tuesday punches their tickets into the Regional Finals on Saturday.

Glens Falls took command early, with a 27-4 first quarter lead resulting in a 92-42 victory over Section 7's Beekmantown at Shenendehowa High School.  The Black Bears never looked back in a game where Brody Holcomb scores 23 points and Oscar Lilac adds 17.  Aiden Prunty contributed 15 points.

The win keeps Glens Falls perfect on the season, improving their record to 24-0.  The now marked #1 team in Class A by the New York State Sportswriters Association is one of two remaining undefeated teams in New York State after Cardozo and School of Inquiry, two NYC teams, were beat on Tuesday night.

The Black Bears advance to Saturday's Regional Finals, where they'll face either Section 10's Massena or Section 3 perennial powerhouse Westhill on Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.   Tip is at 5:15pm, the third of the Boys Regional Finals to be played at HVCC on Saturday.

In Class B, Jaxon Mueller scores 17 and Carter Wichelns and Kaelan Leak add 15 a piece as Stillwater advances to the NYSPHSAA Regional Finals on Saturday after beating Northeastern Clinton 71-34.

Stillwater started off hot, converting turnovers by Northeastern Clinton into points as the Warriors would take a 34-3 lead after the first quarter, and never looked back.  The Cougars shot 3 for 30 in the first half, as the heavy pressure of Jaxon Mueller and Carter Wichelns inside the paint made things difficult.

Stillwater next travels up to SUNY Potsdam where they'll face Section 10's Canton on Saturday.  Game tip is slated for 2:30pm.

We'll keep up with our local teams this weekend as they try to make their way back to Glens Falls for next week's Championships.
