Gov. Hochul: Albany's Central Warehouse to be Demolished

News 10 Video via YouTube

All part of a larger project

The looming eyesore over Albany may soon be turned to dust. On Friday, Governor Hochul announced the state will provide $10 million to the demolition of the long abandoned and decaying Central Warehouse.

A timeline was not set forth, but the grant money will be provided to Albany County, who will begin the process. In May, the building's owner Jeff Buell said the building could be gone within a year pending grant money from the state.

The Governor was in Albany to talk about a much larger project in replacing the Livingston Avenue Bridge, which dates back to the Civil War era. Currently the bridge only carries one train at a time and due to its age, there are speed restrictions. A new bridge will carry two trains where speed will be less of an issue.
