Black Bears win their 52nd straight; play Saturday in Binghamton
TROY - Stop if you heard this one before... Glens Falls's Boys Basketball team wins again.
In a rematch of last year's Regional Finals, Glens Falls knocks off the Section 3 Class A Champions Westhill Warriors 66-44, to send the Black Bears to Binghamton where they will face Wayne on Saturday.
Kellen Driscoll scored 28 points for Glens Falls. Aiden Prunty added 15 points thanks to his 5 threes.
Glens Falls set the tone early, pulling out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter. But despite Glens Falls's fast start, Westhill kept trying to chip away, getting within 11 points at the half. The Warriors would get back within single digits in the 3rd, but every time they tried to close the gap, Glens Falls would pull away again.
A 15-2 run in the 4th Quarter would put the game away for the Black Bears.
Eli Prince, Westhill's high scoring guard, was muffled by the Glens Falls defense through the first half, only amassing 7 points through the first half for the junior who averaged nearly 26 points per game going in. He finished with 19 points, having warmed up as the 2nd half played out.
But by then, the Black Bears were in a comfortable place, preventing Westhill from fully coming back like they did in the meeting last year in Troy, when the Warriors clawed back to within 4 points before Glens Falls secured the win late.
Glens Falls now advances to the State Semifinals where they face Wayne, from the Rochester area, in Binghamton. Tip is scheduled for 3:15pm as the final game in the daytime session at the Visions Veterans Arena.
Should Glens Falls advance, the finals would be Sunday, also in Binghamton.
